The Simple Pleasures of Summer

“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet, and the winds long to play with your hair.” –Khalil Gibran

Being in nature is one of the best things you can do for your mind and overall sense of well-being. For many people, summertime is their favorite season because it means getting back out in the yard or garden and mowing the grass, watering the flowers, and planting vegetables while the sun is out. If you’re a homeowner, you might even find a sense of pride in where you live by taking care of your outdoor space, as it allows you to spend your energy creating an enjoyable oasis in which to spend your time.

Even if gardening and being outdoors is something you’ve always genuinely enjoyed, it’s not always easy to keep up with the work that needs to be done in the yard to maintain it. Oftentimes seniors turn to lawncare specialists or family and friends to help take care of their grass and garden in the summertime because the work is too difficult to do on their own.

I meet countless people who are interested in selling their home in order to downsize, and lawncare is a common factor in their ultimate decision to move. There are many different reasons homeowners begin to feel unable to take care of their lawns and gardens, but for the most part it comes down to wanting to simplify their home life — and that often starts outdoors.

Many communities homeowners downsize to have beautifully maintained outdoor spaces. They have staff on site who are employed especially for lawn and garden maintenance, and do everything from mowing and trimming, to watering, to repainting garden boxes. Many of these communities boast gorgeous outdoor common areas for residents to sit and enjoy the fresh smells of the garden in the summer, and they ensure you don’t have to lift a finger or take any of your heavy, bulky lawn equipment with you when you make your transition to a smaller space.

Just because you aren’t as capable of taking care of your lawn and garden as you once were doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have the pleasure of enjoying a nice yard. If you’re someone who loves to be outdoors, ask about communities that have garden and lawn space. Even if you’re moving, you shouldn’t have to give up your garden time. In many communities, you’ll receive all of the relaxing benefits of enjoying nature without having to do the heavy lifting, bending, and squatting that come along with lawn maintenance. For the sake of simplicity and ease, downsizing brings peace of mind to many homeowners, even in these gorgeous summer months.
